A Sanctuary of My Own

A personal website turned into a hand-drawn 3D room: a desk for creating, records for music, a wardrobe and shelves of books. Each object shows its colors only when selected, and a schnauzer modeled on the author's own dog can be petted.

Description

In a vast and hurried digital world, the author wanted a room of their own, so they turned their personal website into a 3D space to explore and linger in. There is a desk for creating, records for the sounds they love, a wardrobe for everyday self-expression and shelves for books and inspiration. Finished work, passing thoughts and unfinished experiments all have a place here. The computer opens the author's coding projects, and a schnauzer modeled on their dog, Heihei, can be petted and responds to visitors.

The room begins in paper white and graphite gray, with hand-drawn textures and slightly irregular shapes. Only when you select an object do its own colors emerge. Through this small interaction, the author wanted to capture a familiar feeling: when we turn our attention back to the things we love, ordinary life becomes vivid again.

A Sanctuary of My Own is the author's gift to themself, a little world shaped around what matters to them that gives the things they love a home while leaving room for uncertainty, rest and the unfinished. It is also a response to Tripothon's theme, "Build a World as a Gift": begin with your own life and create a small world you want to return to and share with others. The door is open. Come in and stay a while.

How Tripo was used

Tripo generated the key 3D assets in the room, turning 2D visual ideas into assets ready for a real-time scene and sparing the author from modeling complex objects from scratch.

  • What it made: the computer, the bicycle on the porch, potted plants, and a schnauzer modeled on the author's dog, Heihei.
  • Workflow: ImageGen produced style references, Tripo image-to-3D turned them into models, and some models were reduced in polygon count. Scale, materials and animation were then adjusted locally before everything was brought into the page with Three.js. The dog keeps the mesh and textures generated by Tripo, with rigging and interactive motions added later.
  • Role in the work: the computer is the gateway to the author's coding projects, the dog is a companion that visitors can pet and that responds to them, and the bicycle and plants make the space feel lived-in. The models carry the visuals and also take part in navigation and emotional interaction.
