Description

Brutal Derby is a fast-paced vehicular combat game built around destruction, weapons, aggressive AI and chaotic battles. It is a gift for players who miss the raw fun of classic vehicular combat games, reimagined with modern destruction, dynamic environments and AI-assisted development.

Choose your vehicle and enter race and demolition derby events across distinct arenas. Cars can ram, shoot and destroy each other with machine guns, rockets, grenades, mines and other weapons, while a dynamic damage system lets vehicles deform, break apart and lose entire sections mid-fight. Each environment has its own personality and hazards, from a neon-lit race to Budapest's Heroes' Square, volcanic arenas ringed by deadly lava and canyon battles with environmental threats. The goal is simple: make every match unpredictable, destructive and fun.

Brutal Derby is a solo project developed in Unity. Its core driving, combat, AI and destruction systems and several playable environments were in place before the event; during it, the author created and integrated new 3D assets and environments with Tripo, expanded gameplay content, weapons and vehicle systems, and improved the overall presentation and playable build. Panoramas and textures were generated with OpenAI ImageGen, and seven music tracks with Suno.

How Tripo was used

Tripo became a key part of Brutal Derby's 3D production pipeline.

  • What it made: the author turned concepts and reference images into game-ready starting points for vehicles, props, landmarks and environment assets across multiple arenas.
  • After generation: the models were refined, optimized and integrated into Unity with custom materials, colliders and gameplay logic.
  • Scale: this workflow let a solo developer build diverse 3D environments at a scale that would otherwise take a much larger art team.
