Description

Cardboard Adventure is a portrait-mode idle RPG in a handmade cardboard style: a squad of eight classes runs looping routes and battles automatically while you hunt for loot and upgrade your gear. Available on TapTap, it is the author's gift to childhood.

As a child, the author loved picking up cardboard boxes and scraps, building fantasy kingdoms with scissors and tape, and imagining being a knight in armor with a sword, setting off on adventures in a small room. Those hand-built worlds had no flashy effects, but they held a whole world of imagination.

Part of the gift is for the author's younger self: turning those days of cardboard-knight dreams into a world you can actually play, and holding on to the pure joy of making everything out of cardboard. The other part is for children growing up right now, in the hope that the game helps them rediscover the magic of simple things. You don't need expensive toys; a single piece of cardboard can become castles, heroes and adventures. May they always keep their boundless imagination. The gates of the cardboard kingdom are open. Ready to set out, knight?

The core of the game, including the code, was built after the hackathon began; some of the character assets come from the author's entry in Tripo's second rendering contest, made before the hackathon. The game was made with TapTap Maker, and its showcase animation was generated with MiniMax H3.

How Tripo was used

The game's core assets were all generated with Tripo: working in WorkBuddy, the author called the Tripo API to batch-generate the characters, the props and the character animations.
