Description

Si Dian Jin: Chaoshan Homecoming is a first-person 3D puzzle story inspired by Chaoshan courtyard homes and ceramic mosaic craft. Return to Grandpa's old house, follow the clues in his letter, and repair the gift he left unfinished. It is a gift for people coming home, and for those willing to carry on their hometown's crafts.

The game has four puzzles, connecting a carved wooden lock, a picture frame, an incense burner and a ceramic lion. Find a porcelain petal, restore it to the lion's shoulder, then write Grandpa a reply.

It is played on a computer with keyboard and mouse: WASD to move, hold the right mouse button to look around, E to inspect and B to open the bag. The interface switches between Chinese and English; the current walkthrough video uses the Chinese interface and Chinese narration, with English subtitles.

GPT-6 Astra assisted with the story, web code and Blender scripts in Codex. Tripo supplied seven types of models, Blender refined their scale, parts, materials and animation, and Three.js turned them into playable mechanisms. The story and letters are fiction, not a historical reconstruction. A playable prototype existed on September 10, and English/Chinese localization was added on September 16.

How Tripo was used

The models from Tripo are the very objects you rotate, align and repair as the story unfolds.

  • Seven model types: the ceramic lion, carved lock, picture frame, incense burner, roof ornament, lantern and letter box were generated with Tripo. Some reference images were made with OpenAI image_gen; the original concept references came from the author.
  • Refined in Blender: the lock's rotating flower was separated into its own part, a matching shard was cut from the lion's shoulder with its UVs preserved, materials were refined and the lanterns were animated.
  • Wired into play: Three.js connects the models to the four puzzles.
