Description

A real bedroom. A world in ruins. Tonight We Hold is based on the author's real home, and the demo starts in the author's own bedroom.

As a kid, the author often built forts out of sofa cushions and pillows, imagining home as a castle filled with futuristic technology and weapons, one that could even transform. Now AI offers the chance to bring that childhood dream to life.

The plan is a VR game that combines tower defense, strategy and survival across the author's entire house. This demo starts with one room, turning a place lived in every day into a home that players must build up, fortify and defend until dawn. Inside are working power cores, vehicles, workbenches, turrets and resources, and enemies too.

Tonight We Hold is the author's gift to the kid they used to be. It was made in Unreal Engine 5.7: the room was captured with Polycam and 3D Scanner App and the models processed in Blender, while OpenAI Codex assisted with design, coding and production, and OpenAI image generation supported visual development and the cover.

How Tripo was used

Tripo generated the props and characters, each with a job in the playable survival loop.

  • Props: 22 prop categories, placed at 62 locations.
  • Characters: the lumberjack, the hiker and the Boss.
  • Cleanup and integration: outputs were cleaned up in Blender for scale, pivots, UVs, materials and polygon budgets, then brought into Unreal Engine with collisions, LODs and retargeted animation.
  • In play: the models became working power cores, vehicles, workbenches, turrets, resources and enemies.
