Description

The camp in Agoro Camp is real. Camp Afric is an off-grid camp in central Portugal that the author has been rebuilding from a stone ruin since arriving with a van in March 2022, and here it becomes a playable world in Unreal Engine 5.8. The terrain comes from survey data of the actual site (LiDAR and drone footage), so the track, the olive trees and the ruin sit where they really are. During development the author also generated Marble worlds of the camp with World Labs, including one guided by depth from the survey data and walkable in UE 5.8 in a separate test build. That workflow showed what the terrain needed and led to the LiDAR height data the playable terrain now uses.

Two missions are playable:

  • Arrival: tow the caravan with Holzmichel, the van, down the olive track, spend the first night, then set up solar power and the first water in the morning, the way the camp really started.
  • GO LIVE: set up the camp's first concert and record it live. It ends with a real live performance by the team's singer, a song she wrote about this camp.

It is a gift for everyone who can't come to the camp yet: friends and family following it from far away, the young people the camp is meant for, and anyone who dreams of building something from almost nothing. You arrive the way the author arrived. The game is a work in progress, and some vehicles and props are still placeholders. The real camp, the 2025 drone footage, a browser camp-builder game and the Tripo models of the founders and Kofa existed before the hackathon; the Unreal Engine 5.8 project, the LiDAR terrain with 3,000 placed trees, the Tripo vehicles and both missions were built during it. The author also plans to show the camp as a glasses-free 3D diorama on a Jupiter display, which is not part of the submitted build.

On foot, WASD walks, the mouse looks around, E interacts and left Shift runs. In the van, W accelerates, S brakes or reverses, A and D steer, Space is the handbrake, and holding R puts you back on the track. It needs 64-bit Windows 10 or 11 and a DirectX 12 graphics card.

How Tripo was used

Tripo is at the core of every living thing and vehicle in the camp.

  • Characters: the author's own body, the camp's two founders and the companion Kofa are Tripo models, rigged and animated and standing in the real camp. The team singer's 3D character is made of two Tripo models, created with her consent.
  • Vehicles and buildings: the Holzmichel van, the caravan and the stone pump house are Tripo models, made game-ready in Blender with scripted retopology and scaled to their real length, then used in the Arrival mission.
  • Into the engine: the models go straight into Unreal Engine 5.8 through the Tripo Bridge plugin.
