Description

Heart Island is a small island made for your emotions. The project began with something personal: when they feel low, many people open a chat window, type out a long message, then delete it letter by letter. It isn't that they have nothing to say; they don't know who to say it to, and they don't want to bother anyone. Heart Island wants to catch that moment and give feelings a place where nothing needs explaining or performing. It is for everyone who wants a gentle place to set their feelings down, especially in the sleepless hours of the night with no one to talk to.

The experience has three parts:

  • Record: write down your mood each day, in text or by voice. The AI takes in what you say, and its reply streams in line by line, as if someone really listened to the end.
  • See: your emotions become the island's scenery, with the weather, the sea and the plants changing with your mood. When you're happy, the island clears up; when it's raining inside you, it rains on the island too.
  • Look back: come back after a while and the island remembers the path you've walked. A mood curve and AI-written summaries of each stage show you how you got through.

On the island you are a traveler who can walk, explore, fish, drive and release sky lanterns. What you record isn't just text; it is an island that slowly grows.

Under the hood, the front end uses React, TypeScript and Framer Motion with a Three.js 3D scene, AI replies stream over WebSocket, and a Python backend handles sentiment analysis and generation. The terrain, village buildings, plants and props were modeled procedurally in Blender, and the traveler was generated with Tripo. The author doesn't see Heart Island as a tool. It is more like a gift for whoever typed everything out late at night and then deleted it, a way of saying: your feelings deserve a place to rest.

How Tripo was used

Tripo generated Heart Island's protagonist, the traveler who stands in for the player. Walking, exploring, fishing, driving and releasing sky lanterns all happen through this character.

  • The start of the character pipeline: the traveler began as an original 2D character design, which Tripo turned into a complete 3D character of about 20,000 faces.
  • What came next: proportions were checked in Blender segment by segment (feet, legs, torso, head), CMU motion-capture animation was added, and the character is driven in real time in Three.js, running, jumping, casting a line and releasing lanterns on the island.
  • Its weight in the work: much of what players feel for the island lands on this figure. In the author's words, Tripo bridged the hardest gap for an independent developer: character modeling.
