Description

Mannahatta 2100: Flora & Fauna AR Cards is a gift for the next generation of New Yorkers, human and nonhuman: an invitation to know the life around us and imagine a city where nature can thrive.

Built in Lureo with 3D assets made in Tripo, the deck brings illustrated flora and fauna cards into augmented reality. Activate a card to encounter a 3D plant or animal, hear its story and discover its place in New York's ecosystems. Wild strawberry, sweet goldenrod, bumblebees, oysters, horseshoe crabs and peregrine falcons become entry points into a city that extends beyond its buildings and streets. Botanical and wildlife imagery, short narration and habitat-inspired soundscapes make each encounter intimate and inviting, encouraging people to slow down, notice, and connect a single species to a larger web of life.

The deck is meant for young people, families, educators and curious city dwellers, offering a tactile starting point for ecological learning and shared discovery. The world it builds is not a separate fantasy landscape but a renewed relationship with the living city we already inhabit. The gift is wonder that can turn into care: a way to recognize and protect our plant and animal neighbors while imagining a future in harmony with nature.

The cards grow out of Mannahatta 2100, an AR project exploring contrasting climate futures for New York City. Before the hackathon, it already included mobile and Snap Spectacles prototypes, ecological research and visual development. The card deck, with its bespoke artwork and assets, is a new chapter that brings the project's question into the present: how can we imagine and create a thriving eco-city in 2100? Some 2D images and nature sounds were made with ChatGPT, and the narration voice with ElevenLabs.

How Tripo was used

In the deck's image-to-3D-to-AR workflow, Tripo provided the 3D asset-generation step and Lureo delivered the interactive experience.

  • Image-to-3D: Tripo turned the flora and fauna illustrations into 3D models.
  • Into AR: rather than showing isolated assets, the models are connected in Lureo to the physical cards, species narration and habitat soundscapes, making local biodiversity tangible and encouraging ecological stewardship.
