Description

The 300-Year Bloom is a first-person game that plays in the browser and takes 8 to 12 minutes. Two people arrive on an orange planet smothered in toxic fog, hoping to make a home there. An accident damages Yue's lungs, and the ship's clean air is only enough for one, so she has to go into a hibernation pod. Before she sleeps, she takes out a night-blooming cereus seed she brought from Earth and says, almost in passing: "Nothing can grow here, can it?"

Kai doesn't answer. He wakes for one year in every six, from age 30 to 80, and spends 300 years turning the whole planet into a place where things can grow: lichen first, then moss, reeds, ferns and trees, until the first rain falls in year 240. Everything he makes carries a strip of tape with his words on it. The gift is for Yue, who will wake 300 years later on a planet she has never seen. The whole world is Kai's gift to her, and he never explains why; the answer is written only on the label of an empty jar: "Yue's. Year 0."

You play Yue after she wakes. First you see a memory of her last night before sleep, then you wake in the ship at the bottom of the valley and follow the lit path he left, up toward the summit.

  • Every step up brings you a year closer to his old age; the top of the screen reads "YEAR 87 · KAI, 44".
  • Along the way are the pods he slept in, each more handmade than the last. Beside each one is a video log he recorded for her, five in all, from Kai at 30 to Kai at 80. Finish a log, and a string of lights runs along the path to his next pod, as if he were showing you the way.
  • Everything by the path can be read: the moss that survived only on the 12th try, a "Sorry." on broken Tower 12, the bud of No. 41, the mask he took off in the rain in year 240, the stone bench by the door with room for two.

At the top stands a small hut with HOME taped to the door. The flower grows beside it, and inside is his last hibernation pod, with only one wake-up left. The flower blooms for a single night: wake him, and this is his last night, or let him sleep and watch it bloom alone.

The game is built with Three.js, and all of its sound, from wind, reeds, footsteps, breathing and the hum to the theme music, is synthesized in real time with Web Audio. The five video logs and two ending videos, including their English dialogue, were generated with Seedance 2.5; the character and pod designs, scene backgrounds and textures were painted with GPT Image 2.5; and the web code was written with the help of Claude Code.

How Tripo was used

Everything Kai made by hand was generated with Tripo.

  • Every 3D model: the hut, the hibernation pods, the towers, the ship hull, the night-blooming cereus and the objects from his 50 waking years were all made with Tripo API (v3) image-to-3D, using v3.1 for geometry and v3.5 for de-lit textures.
  • Reference images and the opening: Tripo image-to-image (chat_image_2.5, seedream_v5) produced the single-object reference images and the four-panel backstory that opens the game.
