Description

World in a Box is a web app for anyone who wants to hold the memories they share with someone in the palm of their hand. You walk into an editable 3D street, stroll along it and step into four little shops: an old electronics shop, a teahouse, a gift shop and a café. Up close, you pick up the "memory objects" on their shelves, then place them with your written memories on a palm-sized planet you can spin and keep, and give it, along with a full letter, to someone who matters.

The experience has four steps:

  • Memory Street: press E at a shop door to go in, and click memory objects up close to pick them up.
  • My Pocket: everything you pick up is kept here.
  • Planet editor: choose a planet style and a pair of characters, pick exactly three memory objects, and write your memories and a full letter.
  • Collection card: the planet and the letter appear together on one card.

The collection card, the planet model and the letter can all be saved and taken with you; your pocket and drafts are stored locally, so a page refresh loses nothing.

The team built the editable street themselves in Three.js (r180) with meshes and baked materials, and the planet and collection card are rendered in the same engine. The pocket, planet editor, collection card and saving flow are all built in-house too.

How Tripo was used

Tripo generated the heart of the gift.

  • Memory objects and characters: Tripo produced the design images and high-detail GLB models for every hero memory object and both characters, such as the shop's signature "Moonlit TV" at about 110,000 triangles. These are the gifts players pick up in the shops and set on the planet.
  • Image-first pipeline: the local build runs the full Tripo API flow, generating a design image first and creating the 3D model only after the user approves it. When the project was submitted, this entry was not yet open in the online version.
  • A complete loop: Tripo's models plug into the team's own Three.js street and palm-planet engine, from generating and approving to exploring, picking up, placing on the planet, making the collection card and exporting a model you can keep. Every piece is playable, collectible and ready to give.
